Singapore bans magazine

SINGAPORE: Singapore has banned the Far Eastern Economic Review, a Hong Kong-based magazine, because it failed to comply with the City State's Newspaper and Printing Presses Act, said the Government. The magazine failed to appoint the mandatory legal representative here and submit a security deposit of $200,000 (Singapore). ``It is a privilege and not a right for foreign newspapers to circulate in Singapore. If any foreign newspaper fails to comply with the law, including the Newspaper and Printing Presses Act, they cannot expect to enjoy this privilege,'' said an official statement. — Xinhua
