Emphatic win for Uttar Pradesh

DHARAMSHALA: Uttar Pradesh signed off in style with an emphatic 316-run victory over Sialkot on the final day of the four-day Mohammad Nissar Trophy match at the cricket stadium here on Saturday.

Sialkot, with injuries to Imran Nazir and Khalid Hafiz, was presented a stiff task in the morning by U.P., which declared at 373 for seven, leaving the opposition a target of 429 runs to win in 85 overs.

The bruised and battered visitor never made an attempt to reach the target and was woefully short of motivation even to escape with a draw.

Seamer Rudra Pratap Singh, who was declared the `best bowler' of the match, bowled a nagging line and testing length. He never allowed the Sialkot batsmen any room and picked up four wickets.

R.P. Singh stuck to the basics by attacking the batsmen and ran through the opposition after Praveen Kumar had given U.P. the initial breakthrough.

The match ended 30 minutes after lunch when Sarfaraz Ahmed swung wildly, only to watch the stump go cart-wheeling.
