Mysore Division wins overall title

Mysore : Mysore Division, with 212 points, retained the overall championship in the State-level Dasara Games 2006, which concluded at the Chamundivihar Complex on Thursday. Bangalore City finished second with 176 points.

In the men's swimming event at the University swimming pool, K.M. Vishnu of Bangalore City hogged the limelight by winning the individual title with 13 points.

In gymnastics, N. Lokesh of Mysore Division won the individual title with 38.60 points (7 golds and one silver).

M. Vijaya Shankar of Mysore Division created a new meet record in the men's triple jump on the final day with a jump of 13.89m, erasing the previous mark of 13.79m set by C.C. Seebi of Mysore Division in 1998.

Women: 5000m: 1. Akshitha (Mys, 19:33.7s); 2. N.H. Patil; 3. Savitha. Triple jump: 1. Hemavathy Nayak (Ngm, 10.88m); 2. N.V. Ankitha; 3. K. Ashwini.

4x400m relay: 1. Mysore (4:13.25s); 2. Bangalore City; 3. Belgaum. Discus: 1. Reshma D. Almeda (Mys, 21.71m); 2. S. Sushma; 3. Pooja H. Tamank; 100m hurdles: 1. M.E. Soji; 2. Veeraja; 3. Ashwini; 100m: 1. Rebeka Jose (Mys, 12.7s); 2. M.V. Ankitha; 3. K.S. Sangeetha.

Individual champion: N.V. Ankitha (Mysore Division, 14 points).

Ravinder in final

Ravinder of STC Bhiwani beat Lakshman More of STC (Mumbai) 5-2 to enter the final in the upto 55kgs category in the men's section of the all-India invitation wrestling championships at the D. Devaraja Urs multipurpose stadium here on Thursday.

Anandan's death condoled

The Karnataka State Football Association condoled the death of former State player S.T. Anandan (68), who passed away in Bangalore on September 26. Anandan had represented Karnataka in the Santosh Trophy tournament at Hyderabad in 1966.

Badminton tournament

The State-ranking badminton tournament for the mini, midget and sub-junior categories will be held at the KBA courts in Bangalore from October 7 to 9. The organisers, Badminton Wellwishers Trust, have advanced the tournament that was originally scheduled from October 14 to 17. Entries close on Oct. 4. Call M.D. Murali (99458-06410) for details.
