VISAKHAPATNAM: Local girl and top seed N.B. Saranya won the under-12 title in the Visakhapatnam District Tennis Association-AITA Talent Series at the AU Tennis Complex here on Thursday. She beat second seed I. Teertha 6-3, 6-2 in the final. The two will meet again in the under-14 category summit clash on Friday. The top seeds in the boys' sections made the final without much difficulty. S.M. Abdullah, seeded No. 1 in the under-12 category and seeded second in the under-14 event, is in line for a triple crown. He clashes with T. Nehal in under-12 singles final and takes on top seed D. Sai Nishanth in the under-14 title clash. Abdullah and Sai Nishanth, with their respective partners, will meet in the under-14 doubles final.
The results: Boys under-14 singles (semifinals): Singles: D. Sai Nishanth bt K. Srinivas 6-0, 6-0; S.M. Abdullah bt P. Sai Nihar 6-1, 6-1; Doubles: Sai Nishanth & Sai Nihar bt T. Nehal & B. Off-spinners ruled the roost on the opening day of the contest between East Godavari and Vizianagaram in the ACA North Zone under-13 inter-district cricket tournament at Vizianagaram on Thursday. East Godavari's off-spinner Ch. Samba claimed seven wickets, as Vizianagaram was restricted to 114. In reply, M. Abhinav Sagar's dream spell of eight for seven runs saw East Godavari being dismissed for 44. In the other match, Visakhapatnam ended the day in a strong position, declaring at 152 for four after bowling out Srikakulam for 49. G. Shyam Sundar claimed four wickets. The scores: Vizianagaram 114 in 54.2 overs (Ch. Samba seven for 30, Prashanth Kumar three for 38) vs. East Godavari 44 in 33 overs (M. Abhinav Sagar eight for seven). Srikakulam 49 in 55 overs (G. Shyam Sundar four for 10) & three for no loss in 10 overs vs. Visakhapatnam 152 for four decl. in 33 overs (Rohan Das 39, Sai Dinesh 36, Ricky Bhui 27 n.o., K.S. Bharat 25 n.o., G.
