CHANGING SIDES: Congress workers of Jayanagar Assembly constituency who joined the Janata Dal (S) at a function here on Monday are seen with JD(S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda. Photo: K. Gopinathan
Bangalore: The national president of the Janata Dal (Secular), H.D. Deve Gowda, on Monday lambasted the Congress for trying to "break" the Janata Dal (S). He was referring to the September 3 convention at the Bangalore Palace grounds where Congress president Sonia Gandhi welcomed the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah into the party. Participating in a meeting organised to welcome Congress workers into the Janata Dal (S) in Jayanagar Assembly constituency, Mr. Deve Gowda said the Congress had become insecure with the growth of Janata Dal (S), hence the machinations of that party's leadership. He ridiculed the Congress for raising issues of corruption against the coalition headed by H.D. Kumaraswamy. "They say he has made Rs. 150 crore in four months. It is time we exposed how much the Congress leadership has looted over the years." Praising Mr. Kumaraswamy for taking the decision to hold a legislature session in Belgaum, Mr. Deve Gowda said this "has been the desire of the people of that region for a long time." This would reinforce a unified Karnataka, particularly as all parties were one on the issue.
