HYDERABAD: HPRC-2 defeated Navy/CAV by eight to seven-and-a-half goals in the Prince of Berar Trophy final of the Hyderabad Polo Season at Bison Polo Grounds here on Sunday. HPRC, starting with a handicap of +6, owed its victory to Dhruvpal Godara who scored seven goals. Pratik was the other scorer. For the loser, Ravi Rathore was the main scorer with five goals and Akhil Sirohi also played well to score two goals. In the Bison Trophy exhibition match later, Rabbits defeated Lancer by six to three-and-a-half goals. Rabbits started with a +5 handicap and won with N.S. Khera striking thrice in the first, second and third chukkers while Sameer Choudhary, P.P. Singh and Tarsem Singh scored once each to complete the tally. For the loser with a handicap of +4, the three goals came through A.R.S. Samra's brace in the fourth chukker and one by Raj Sangram Singh in the first.
Title for Saharsh
Saharsh Reddy of Hyderabad and R. Leela Lakshmi of Chittoor won the boys and girls' singles titles respectively in the AP State sub-junior badminton championship at the Madhura Nagar Indoor Stadium here on Sunday. Saharsh defeated Sk. Khaja Jaleel Ahmed of Nalgonda 21-18, 19-21, 21-18 while Lakshmi got the better of P.V. Sindhu of Hyderabad 21-6, 21-2. Other results: Doubles: Finals: Boys: Sk. The Andhra Pradesh teams to take part in the sub-junior National badminton championship to be held in Pondicherry from October 24 to 29 were announced on Sunday. The teams: Boys: C. Saharsh Reddy (Hyd), Khaja Jaleel Ahmed (Nlg), Sri Teja (Nlg). Girls: R. Leela Lakshmi (Ctr), P.V. Sindhu (Hyd), M. Chandana (Kna), A. Nikhita (Kna). Coaches: K. Venkat and P. Kranti.
Cluster I (Golkonda) wins
Cluster I (Golkonda) defeated Cluster II (Uppal) 2-1 in the final of the Kendriya Vidya Sangathan regional hockey tournament. Right-out G. Sharath Kumar scored in the 40th minute to give Cluster II lead but the rival fought back well through right-in D. Sunil and centre-forward Gopal Mondal to win the match. In the girls' final, Cluster II (Uppal) drubbed Cluster I (Golkonda) 7-0 with Meenakshi and M. Rushitha scoring a brace each while S. Anvitha, M. Rekha and M. Anuradha once each. G. Satyanarayana, HHA secretary, gave away the prizes.
Rohan cracks ton
A century by Rohan (103) helped Hindi Mahavidyalaya record an 88-run win over Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya in the St. Thomas inter-schools (under-13) cricket tournament at Neredmet, organised by Sharma Cricket Coaching Academy. The scores: St. Peter's HS 67 for six lost to Bhega's HS 68 for one. St. Peter's HS `A' 214 for three (Akram 58, Mallikarjun 34) bt St. Martin's HS 26 (Hussain four for none). Hindi Mahavidyalaya 186 for four (Rohan 103) bt Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya 88.
