Kalam: focus more on developmental politics

MADURAI: Elected representatives should focus more on developmental politics than political politics, President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has said.

In an exclusive interview to The Hindu here on Saturday, Mr. Kalam ruled out the possibility of his running for a second term in office. He would continue to help those working for the country's development.

The entire primary education syllabus in the country had to be changed, with more emphasis needed on bringing out creative talents. The number of books carried by students should come down. Schools should be enjoyable, the President said. for children. Sharing his experiences of meeting students all over the country, he said the uniform thinking among youth was that they wanted to live in a competitive India.
