Staff Reporter

For construction of Dhaula Kuan flyover, improvement of T-Junction of NH 8 and Station Road at Delhi Cantonment

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval to proposals for transfer of Defence land in Delhi to the Government of Delhi for construction of the Dhaula Kuan flyover and for improvement of the intersection at T-Junction of National Highway 8 and Station Road at Delhi Cantonment. Another piece of Defence land has been given to Delhi Government for construction of the missing link of Road No. 43 at Shakurbasti in the Capital.

According to an official announcement, 8.628 acres of Defence land at Dhaula Kuan will be given for construction of the Dhaula Kuan flyover and 3,263.82 square metres of land would be given for improvement of the intersection at the T-junction of NH 8 and Station Road. This land has been given to the Public Works Department of the Delhi Government for the job. The PWD has also been given 5.349 acres of Defence land at Ordnance Depot Shakurbasti for construction of the missing link of Road No. 43.

The Dhaula Kuan flyover, the note said, would ease the traffic congestion in the area immensely as the Delhi Government has embarked upon a major programme of constructing flyovers. It said the PWD had been entrusted with the responsibility of constructing a major multi-level flyover at the Dhaula Kuan crossing.

As for Road No. 43, the note said it was an important Master Plan Road, taking off from Britannia Chowk on Ring Road and joining Outer Ring Road passing through Shakurbasti, Pitampura, Mangolpuri Industrial Area Phase II and a number of group housing societies complex. The total length of this road is 5.25 km, and barring a 400-metre stretch along the periphery of the Ordnance Depot at Shakurbasti the entire road length has already been completed.
