Sanjiv scores century, City XI well placed

TIRUNELVELI: Martin Sanjiv, overnight on 47, completed a century (126) on Tuesday and N.D. Srikanth remained unbeaten on 56 in a ninth wicket partnership of 150 that helped City XI declare at 414 for nine against Combined Districts XI in the R.T. Parthasarathy Trophy TNCA under-19 cricket match at ICRC ground, Sankar Nagar. At close, Combined Districts XI was 119 for five in 41 overs.

City XI 414 for nine decl. in 137 overs (R. Prasanth 39, N. Eintein 55, Martin Sanjiv 126, N.D. Srikanth 56 not out, K. Sriram four for 81, R. Pandiaraj three for 115) v Combined Districts XI 119 for five in 41 overs (F. Ashwin 74, C. Naveen three for 18).

MKU advances

At Madurai, Madurai Kamaraj University College entered the semifinals of Indian Cements Trophy district-level inter-collegiate cricket tournament, defeating Arulanandar College by 38 runs at the American College ground on Tuesday.

The scores:

Quarterfinals: MKU College 121 in 19 overs (Sathish four for 123) bt Arulanandar College 83 in 16 overs (Alaguraj three for nine, Sundara Pandian three for 12).

(Pre-quarterfinals): Sethu Institute of Tech 151 for seven in 20 overs (Silambarasan 39, Mahesh 33, Sathish three for 22) bt MSSWB College 98 in 20 overs.

American College 135 in 20 overs (Vicky 30, Arun Kunjh Mohan three for 24) bt Vikram Engineering College 92 in 18 overs (Premchandran three for 17).

Analmin CC posts win

At Tuticorin, Jothilingam's five for 34 went in vain as SPIC Cricket Club lost to Analmin Cricket Club, for which Godson contributed 79, in a Tuticorin District Cricket Association second division league match on Sunday.

The scores: First division: Seconds CC `A' 253 in 44.2 overs (Sivaji 52, Premkumar 41, Ganesh 66) bt Youth CC 201 in 39.1 overs (Subramani 49).

Second division: Analmin cc 212 in 37.1 overs (Godson 79, Jothilingam five for 34) bt SPIC CC 162 in 26.5 overs (Muthukumar 36, Manivannan 31).

Third division: TRC CC `A' 142 in 28 overs (Manoj 35, Vasanth 32, Ashok six for 22) lost to VOC CC 144 for five in 24 overs (Manikandan 35, Karthik 52 not out).

GVN starts in style

At Kovilpatti, host GVN College beat KR Arts College 2-1 in the inaugural match of the Manonmanian Sundaranar University inter-collegiate hockey tournament on Tuesday. Srinivasan and Alagarsamy scored for GVN College, while Meenakshi Sundaram scored for KR Arts College.

Mohan nets a brace

At Madurai, Vikram Engineering College bt TVS Soccer Club 2-1 in a Madurai District Football Association `A' Division league match on Tuesday. Mohan scored both goals for Vikram Engineering College, while Vijaya Rajan reduced the margin.

Three wins for SZ men

At Madurai, South Zone men registered three wins in the five-team league, while the South Zone women recorded two wins in the five-team league in the team events in the all-India inter-Airport Authority of India badminton championship on Tuesday.

The results: Men: South Zone bt East Zone 3-0; Central bt West 3-0; South bt North East 3-0; West bt East 3-0; Central bt North East 3-0; Central bt East 3-0; South bt West 3-0.

Women: Central bt East 2-0; South bt West 2-1; West bt East 2-0; South bt Central 2-0.

AUCPE claims title

At Sivagangai, Alagappa University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi, claimed the title defeating Idaya College, Sarugani, 25-4, 25-10 in the final of the Alagappa University inter-collegiate women's volleyball tournament on Tuesday.

Madura College triumphs

At Madurai, Madura College won the title with an all-win record in the four-team league of the Madurai Kamaraj University Champion Trophy inter-collegiate ball badminton tournament on Tuesday.

Raju's College, Rajapalayam, finished runner-up with two wins.

The Results: League: Madura College bt Raju's College 29-8, 29-13; Madura College bt American College 29-22, 29-7; Madura College bt GTN Arts College, Dindigul, 19-29, 29-5, 29-1; Raju's College bt GTN Arts College 29-8, 29-15; Raju's College bt American College 17-29, 29-27; American College bt GTN Arts 29-14, 29-5.

Inter-collegiate basketball

At Virudhunagar, the Dr. H. Lysander Trophy State-level inter-school and inter-collegiate basketball tournament will be conducted by the Virudhunagar Y's Men's Club from September 26 to 29.
