Hmar Venj High School runs riot

NEW DELHI: Three goals each by Lallaiumkima and Lalmingliana helped Hmar Venj High School, Mizoram, to a 9-0 triumph over National Cadet Corps, West Bengal and Sikkim, in the Subroto Cup junior football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

Zohmingthanga, K. C. Lalchhuanmawia and Rochhingpuia scored the other goals.

In another match, a goal each from L. Boboi and L. Sailo saw Sainik School, Gopalganj beat Chhadhari High School, Samastipur, 2-0.

Federick Marbaniang scored the match-winner, as Mawkhar Christian Higher Secondary School, Shillong, beat Maharashtra High School, Shivajipith, 1-0.

Army Boys Sports Company, BRC, Danapur drew 1-1 with Raghunathji Vidyapith, Cuttack. Sadhu Mamdi scored for the Orissa team while Jacki Chand Singh equalised for Army Boys.

Easy for Modern

Samarth Singh (74 not out, 30b, 9x4, 3x6) and Sahil Kher (66 not out) shared an unbeaten opening wicket stand as Modern School, Barakhamaba Road, defeated Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan by 10 wickets in the league match of the Radha Krishan Sanjay memorial inter-school cricket tournament here.

The scores: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan 142 in 29 overs (Ankit Kumar 38, Gulzar Ahmad 30, Mohit Malhotra three for 21, Manan Sharma three for 32) lost to Modern School, Barakhamba Road, 147 without loss in 11 overs (Samarth Singh 74 not out, Sahil Kher 66 not out).

Basava IS advances

Himanshu Kumar (54) and Abhishek Sehrawat (45 and three for 15) helped Basava International School, Dwarka, beat Bal Bharti Ganga Ram School by 20 runs and make it to the second round of the Himalaya Cup under-15 cricket championship here on Tuesday.

The scores: Basava International School, Dwarka, 153 in 37.2 overs (Himanshu Kumar 54, Abhsihek Sehrawat 45, Varun Malik three for 33, Yuvresh Luthra three for 35) bt Bal Bharti Ganga Ram School 133 in 32.2 overs (Yatharth Bhardwaj 35, Tarandeep Singh 30, Abhishek Sehrawat three for 15, Sudhanshu Sharma three for 25).

Akhil shows the way

Akhil V. Nair did all the scoring to help General Raj's School beat Shiksha Bharti School 4-0 on way to the semifinals of the Father Peter Mermier memorial football tournament at St. Francis de Sales School ground here on Tuesday.

The winning team now plays Delhi Public School (R.K. Puram) which defeated St. Francis de Dales School 4-0. Askari (two), Paras and Paranjay were the scorers.

In spite of the defeat, St. Francis moved into the semifinals where it is due to play Birla Vidya Niketan (BVN). Facing CRPF School (Rohini), BVN posted a 2-0 victory. Arjun Varma and Shivam Bajaj found the target.

In an inconsequential match, Modern School (Vasant Vihar) beat St. Mark's School (Meera Bagh) 2-0. Piyush Chaudhary and Viraj contributed to the tally.

DBSA felicitation

The Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association will felicitate Geet Sethi and Pankaj Advani for their recent achievements, at a ceremony here on Sept. 29. Sethi won the World professional billiards title while Advani was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.

It was Sethi's fifth World pro title after having won in 1992, 93, 95 and 98. He has also won World amateur titles in 1985, 87 and 2001.

At the ceremony, the two cueists will give away prizes to the winners of the Delhi Schools Open billiards and snooker tournament.
