Beagles Club hoopsters too good for KSP

BANGALORE: Beagles Club stunned Karnataka State Police 86-61 in the State `A' division basketball league championship for the N.C. Parappa Memorial Trophy at Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Tuesday.

Beagles piled on the pressure with some accurate shooting by pivot Kevin (27) and Mahesh (20). Arun Banni (20) kept the Police in the fight and KSP, made determined bid in the last quarter, scoring 20 points, but the effort came too late.

The results:

Beagles 86 (Kevin 27, Mahesh 20) bt KSP 61 (Arun Banni 20, Mahesh 12).

ASC 53 (G.P. Goutham 12, Harish Singh 11, Dharampal 10) bt JSC 41 (Pradeep 17, Kaushal 8). MEG & Centre 66 (Santosh 12, Manikanadan 14) bt BEML, Mysore 27 (Keshava10). HASC 45 (Sanjay Raj 16,Yashin 12) bt SBI 33 ( Sridhar 16, Jagdish 7).

Vijaya Bank 70 ( Srinivasa Gowda 25, Murali Mohan 13,Roshan 12 ) bt Sports Hostel 65 ( Srinivas Naik 36, Varun 10).

Manish Pandey hits 200

Manish Pandey's 200 helped Bangalore City post 360 against Combined City XI in the KSCA Inter-zonal under-19 cricket tournament final that commenced at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Tuesday.

Pandey's knock, spread across 208 deliveries, was studded with 32 fours. At close, Combined City mustered 20 for one in six overs.

The scores: Final: Bangalore City 360 in 86.3 overs (Manish Pandey 200) v Combined City XI 20 for one in six overs.

Football tournament

The Sunfeast league boy's (under-16) football tournament will be held at the SPT Sports Academy in Sarjapur, Bangalore, from October 9 to 19. The league is open to schools, associations and clubs. For details, contact: SPT Sports, Ph: 28441566. Entries close on October 4.

Ekalavya adjudged best

The Ekalavya unit was adjudged the best squadron in the inter-squadron bi-annual athletic meet held recently at the Air Force Technical College, Jalahalli, Bangalore.

ASC thumps KSP

Army Service Corps defeated Karnataka State Police 5-1 in the Deccan Herald Super Division league hockey tournament here on Tuesday. Rana Bhengra (7th), Birsa Hind (31st), M.S. Abhinay (43rd), Suresh Kumar (46th) and Harpreet Singh (68th) scored for ASC while Chetan Kumar found the net for the loser in the 17th minute.

Pioneer Corps Training Centre and Canara Bank played out a 3-3 draw with S.P. Kujur (18th and 55th) slotting a brace for PCTC and Anthony Hemran (69th) scoring a last minute goal. K.M. Somanna (12th and 54th) and Ronald Kiran (37th) scored for Canara Bank.

In another match, Sports Authority of India and Central Excise also played out a 3-3 draw. P.M. Mandanna (16th, 43rd and 60th) scored a hat-trick for Central Excise while Vineet Michael (5th), Varun Chinappa (41st) and Nithya Jayanand (48th) found the net for SAI.

Yere Goud to lead

Yere Goud will lead Karnataka in a three-day game and in the three one-dayers against the visiting Western Australian cricket team here from September 23. The matches will be held in Bangalore and Mysore.

Rangers SC triumphs

Rangers Sports Club and Maharani Arts College emerged champions in the men's and women's sections respectively in the State netball championship that concluded here on Monday.

In the finals, Rangers defeated Magic Net Sports Club by a solitary point, while Maharani Arts College got the better of Silver Star Sports Club by eight points.

Janadeepa takes honours

Janadeepa School from Javalli won the State mini boys handball title with an unbeaten record in the super league of the championship played at Nerhu Stadium, Shimoga on Sept. 16 and 17. Kadamba Handball Club, Chitradurga emerged as champion in the sub-junior girls section winning all its four matches.

Bodybuilding squad

Karnataka Amateur Bodybuilders Association has announced its squad to participate in the 22nd Federation Cup bodybuilding championship to be held at Shiv Sagar (Assam) on Sept 24th. K. Malleswara, Deepak Kaveriappa, Keshavkumar, C.M Deepak, B.S. Vinayaka, Khajajan, Syed Ismail, Syed Iqbal, Mahaboob Pasha, K. Wilson, Rizwan, N. Vishwanath, S. Suresh, Kupendra, Sriramappa and Vijay Kumar make up the squad. K. Venkatesh will be manager.
