Easy win for Mahabub College High School

HYDERABAD: A good knock by Naresh (76) helped Mahabub College High School record a comfortable, 39-run win against CRPF School in the Himalaya Cup inter-schools (under-15) cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

The scores:

Himalaya Cup (under-15) inter-school: Little Scholar 137 (Keshav 57) lost to Boys Town 139 for five (Mirza Munawar Baig 39).

Mahbub College HS 209 for seven (Naresh 76, Narender 33, Srikanth 45, Chandrasekhar three for 43) bt CRPF School l70 (Narender three for 33, Rama three for 13).

Bhavan's 76 (Sai Jagadish four for 18, Rohan Yadav three for 23) lost to Gowtham Model School 78 for no loss (Sumanth 40 not out, Sreekanth 36 not out).

B-Division league: Superstars 200 for four (B.Ravi Kiran 123) bt Victory 172 (S. Kazmi 57, V. Satish five for 27).

HCA invite for function

The Hyderabad Cricket Association has formally invited its president, members and all the past and present office-bearers, excecutive committee members and secretaries of all affiliated clubs, senior and junior cricketers to attend the prize distribution function of the Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal) at 10.00 am on Wednesday. Brig. D.S.C. Varma, Commander, Andhra Sub-Area, Secunderabad, will be the chief guest.

Inter-district chess

The Ranga Reddy District Chess Association will organise an inter-district championship for men and women (under-25) and also an Open prize money tournament at Sai Sindhu Grammar School (Kushaiguda) on September 24 and 25 from 9.30 am.

The State team to take part in the National under-25 championship will be selected based on the performances here. For details, call 98490-78112.

Chess coaching camps

A2H Chess Academy will organise coaching camps for school children in the age group of five to 15 years at Vivekananda Nagar (Kukatpally), from September 21 to October 10. Call 9866702431 for details.

HSGF sports calendar

The Hyderabad District School Games Federation has released the sports calendar for the year 2006-2007, which formally begins from October 9 at Lal Bahadur Stadium with athletics, carrom, gymnastics and swimming (MCH Swimming Pool) and badminton events. The inaugural function of the season will be held at Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium on October 9. The schools are to submit their entries for the games by that date.

Ravinder to lead

Reigning national and SAARC champion D. Ravinder Goud will lead Hyderabad Carrom Association in the Federation Cup carrom championship for men and women to be held in Indore (MP) from September 20.

The team: Men: D. Ravinder Goud (capt), L. Surya Prakash, Syed Nayyar, S. Sagar and P.S. Uday Kumar. Women: V. Nagajyothi, Ch. Sreenica, Saarika Jain and M. Archana. Manager: V. Ratnababu. Coach: S. Sobhanraj.

NRI to sponsor AP team

Ifthekar Shareef, an NRI and an avid football lover, has decided to sponsor the State team that will take part in the on-going National football championship for Santosh Trophy in Gurgaon and Faridabad, according to Anis-ul-Mulk, secretary of AP Football Association. The players will also be given an incentive of Rs. 1000 each if they make it to the quarterfinal and semifinals.

Mr. Shareef is also sponsoring the sub-junior State team taking part in the ongoing Junior nationals for Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy.

Meanwhile, State team for Santosh Trophy was announced here.

Andhra wins

Andhra Pradesh, led by R.V. Nagarjuna, won the all-India under-22 Super Elevens Twenty20 cricket tournament defeating Uttaranchal at Nagore, Rajasthan.

Andhra defeated Uttaranchal by two wickets. Batting first, Uttaranchal scored 109 in 20 overs and in reply, Andhra reached the target losing eight wickets in 18.4 overs.

Shakir from West Godavari was adjudged best all rounder, Kamalakar of East Godavari the best bowler and Md. Rafi of Mehboobnagar was declared the best fielder.

VV & M wins a thriller

Ongole's VV & M College defeated ANU College, Nagarjuna nagar in the tie breaker (3-2) in the Acharya Nagarjuan Universit inter-collegiate hockey tournament for men at Vijayawada on Tuesday. At the end of the regulation time, both the teams scored two goals apiece.

In another match, Andhra Loyola College mauled VRS & YRN College 7-0. For teams - ALC, VV7 N Collge, VKR College and Hindu College entered the league.
