BANGALORE: Amar Aiyamma scored a hat-trick and steered BPCL to a 4-1 victory over SAI in a Deccan Herald-KSHA super division hockey league championship match at the KSHA Stadium here on Thursday. Amar struck in the 28th, 36the and 39th minutes for BPCL, while P. Bellary netted the other goal. SAI reduced the deficit through Varun Chinnappa in the second-half. In another tie, MEG prevailed over PCTC 3-2 after leading 3-0 at the break. Arumugam scored a brace for MEG whose other scorer was Thriu. Senthil put up a spirited display for PCTC scoring both its goals in the second session.
Anand scores century
A spate of drawn encounters marked the KSCA inter-zonal under-19 cricket championship matches here on Thursday. However, quite a few centuries were notched up on the day. B.R. Anand made 112 for Tumkur Zone in its drawn match with President's XI, which rode on a fine 162 by S. Vinod. Elsewhere, Suraj Samapth slammed an unbeaten 107 for Bangalore Zone, which drew with Mysore Zone. Sanjay Kumar notched up an unbeaten 103 for Bangalore City XI in its drawn encounter with Dharwad Zone. Another centurion was Muralikrishna, who hit 108 for Raichur Zone, which drew with Secretary's XI. The scores: Tumkur Zone 147 in 70.5 overs and 160 for four in 37.4 overs (B.R Anand 112) drew with President's XI 380 in 77.3 overs (S. Vinodh 162, Kapoor 80, Vikram Gowda seven for 146). Combined City XI 308 in 89 overs drew with Mangalore Zone: 170 in 68.1 overs (K.L. Rahul 50, D.V. Anish six for 44). Mysore Zone 382 for nine in 90 overs drew with Bangalore Zone 197 in 48.5 overs (Suraj Sampath 107 not out) and 147 for four in 36 overs (F.K. Zohar 77). Bangalore City 273 for eight in 90 overs and 142 for five in 36 overs (Sanjay Kumar 103 not out) drew with Dharwad Zone 167 in 62.1 overs (Daniel Liao five for 51). Secretary's XI 346 for nine drew with Raichur Zone 256 in 80 overs (Muralikrishna 108, Sajjan Poovaiah four for 44). Shimoga Zone 317 in 83.4 overs drew with Vice-President's XI 270 in 82 overs (B.C. Tarun Muthanna 44, Tejas A. Wagle 75).
K.S. Hegde Club in semifinal league
K.S. Hegde Club (Mangalore), led by some splendid work under the offensive board by Nithin (33 points) stormed into the semifinal league of the State `C' Division basketball league with a thumping 61-33 victory over Mandya's VBC. With rains upsetting the schedule, the organisers had to postpone a pre-quarterfinal and a quarterfinal match to Friday morning. Thus the semifinal league matches scheduled for the afternoon have been put off to Saturday. The scores: Quarterfinals: K.S. Hegde (Mangalore) 61 (Nithin 33, Arvin 10) bt VBC (Mandya) 33 (Santosh 16). Pre-quarterfinals: VBC (Mandya) 39 (Santosh 16, Naveen 10) bt Pattabhiramnagar 20 (Sunil 17); Merchants (Davangere) 36 (Harshvardhan 13, Chetan 10) bt Greens (Davangere) 28 (Veeresh 9, Ashit 9). League: BSNL 62 (Selva Kumar 16, Mahesh Shinde 10) bt Rajmahal 49 (Arpit 10).
Chang is champion
Anthony Chang (above-40), S.K. Balakrishna (above-50) and K. Satyanarayana (above-60) claimed the men's singles titles in their respective age categories in the Indira Nagar Club's sixth veterans table tennis championship recently. Mandakini Deshpande emerged the champion in the women's above-40 singles category. The resuls: All finals: Men's singles (above-40): Anthony Chang bt Rajesh Kamble 11-2, 10-12, 11-4, 11-9. (Above-50): S.K. Balakrishna bt K.A. Udayashankar 12-10, 11-8, 12-10. (Above-60): K. Satyanarayana bt M.A. Krishnaswamy 12-10, 11-6, 11-8. Women (above-40, singles): Mandakini Deshpande bt Manjula 11-7, 4-11, 11-8, 12-10.
State netball league
The Karnataka State Amateur Netball Association (KSANA) will conduct the State senior league championship for men and women at Chikka Lalbagh grounds, near Upparpet Police Station, from September 15 to 18.
