Smart rally in rupee

MUMBAI: The rupee on Wednesday rallied smartly against the U.S. currency and closed at 46.18/19 a dollar due to heavy dollar sales by corporates in view of more or less steady tone in world crude oil prices.

In active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened steady at 46.27/28 and later shot up to a high of 46.1700, before closing at 46.18/19, sharply higher than the previous day's close of 46.2750/2850.

The rupee also ended strong against other major world currencies. — PTI
