Yuvraj to miss opener

Special Correspondent

Kuala Lumpur: Left-hander Yuvraj Singh will miss India's first match of the DLF Cup scheduled for Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Niranjan Shah, said at the Royal Selangor ground here. Team India had its first practice session of the tour on Monday morning.

Shah said Yuvraj will join the side on Wednesday, but won't play the opener against the West Indies. The 24-year-old, who was part of the first batch in the rolling camp in Bangalore, had missed India's recent practice matches in Chennai due to viral fever.

The question of calling up a replacement didn't arise, added Shah, because Yuvraj would be available for the rest of the tri-series, which concludes on September 24. With Suresh Raina copping one on the chin during the first practice game, and getting stitched up, a middle-order spot could be up for grabs.

India's session consisted of open centre-wicket practice with the accent on big hitting. Rahul Dravid's men have another session scheduled for Tuesday morning before one under the lights on Wednesday.
