Munda will prove his majority: BJP

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party is confident that Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda will be able to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly on or before September 14.

Party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Monday that an alternative government, headed by Independents and the Congress supporting it from outside, would be so fragile that it would not last more than a few months.

Congress' plan

"It has become clear to all MLAs in the State that the Congress' game-plan is to topple the alternative government in a few months and then impose President's rule and order fresh elections. No MLA in the State would like to face fresh elections, and in this situation a majority of the MLAs may not support an alternative government," he said.

As a large number of MLAs are Independents or members of parties with one or two MLAs, the BJP does not think it would be difficult for the Munda Government to find the necessary support.

No partisanship

Mr. Prasad did not think that Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari's action of serving notice on the rebel MLAs now after sitting over the complaints against them for 18 months smacked of partisanship.

With Governor Syed Sibtey Razi giving assent to the bill on the office-of-profit business, the danger of disqualification of several BJP legislators or others supporting the government had been averted.
