With a good display throughout the tournament, the Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Martin Damm has won the U.S. Open doubles title. For the Indian tennis fans, it has been a moment of pride. Paes is a gritty fighter and challenging situations bring out the best in him. Not only that, he proves to be a source of great inspiration to his partner too.

Greg Chappell's emphasis on two aspects — accurate throwing from the deep and hitting the stumps — will help improve the performances of our cricketers in the fielding department in ODIs which is as important as batting and bowling. As a coach, he is devising new methods in order to improve the overall performance of the team.

A remarkable career

It has indeed been a remarkable two decade-long tennis career for Andre Agassi — one of the all-time greats of the sport. Agassi, who won several tournaments including four Australian Open titles apart from winning the French Open and Wimbledon once each, is an adornment to the game.

Hats off to IOC

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) deserves to be commended for entering the sports scholarship scheme. What, however, pains us is that the public sector company did not include football, the most popular game in the world, in the select list. I hope IOC will think again and include football players. This would really serve the purpose of its maiden venture in developing talent.
