COIMBATORE: The Directorate of Industries and Commerce is focussing on cluster, market and infrastructure development and capacity building by industries in the State, said M.S.S. Ravi, Joint Director of Industries and Commerce (Engineering), here on Thursday. For cluster development, it had identified 138 clusters in the State in association with the Small Industries Service Institute (SISI). Since various agencies were working on cluster programmes, it had excluded areas that were already under a programme and the SISI had identified 50 clusters for immediate action. Training and awareness programmes would be organised and assistance would be facilitated through banks for the units in these clusters. Mr. Ravi held discussions with representatives of the Bureau of Indian Standards, banks, small-scale industry agencies and the Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers' Association here on Thursday. The small-scale pumpset manufacturers had sought creation of common testing facilities and bank assistance to get BIS licence.
