Banking on art

K. Balchand

PATNA: The tradition of Madhubani painting is set to receive a fillip with the public sector Bank of India deciding to finance it as part of its centenary celebrations, which concluded on Thursday.

Zonal manager Ramawatar Singh said the bank would promote the Mithila art form at the mass level and give a new meaning to the folk art, which has survived for centuries thanks to the practice being handed down the generations. Besides seeking to help people who were unable to afford the costly inputs, the objective was to meet the demand of art lovers. BOI will extend loans to at least 25 groups comprising no less than 10 artistes for a three-year period.
