Staff Reporter

He has allegedly taken Rs 8.03 lakh from seven persons

CHENNAI : The City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested Kamlesh Kumar (54) of Vadapalani, who had allegedly taken Rs 8.03 lakh from seven persons, under the pretext of getting lucrative teacher jobs in government run schools.

Investigating officers said here on Wednesday that the accused lured young unemployed graduates by claiming that he had influence in the Education department and knew many senior officials in the Teacher Recruitment Board.

Based on a complaint received from Sivappan of Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district, police interrogated Kumar.

He confessed to have received Rs 1.30 lakh cash in 2002, but failed to find jobs for his clients.

Despite repeated pleas, Kumar did not return the money. He was arrested on charges of cheating and remanded to custody. Police further said six other persons also filed complaints with the Job Racket Wing against Kumar alleging that he had received money from them and promised to get them government postings.

An officer said Kumar shifted his residence from one place to another in the city sensing trouble for sometime. He was working as a sales representative in a pharmaceutical company.
