Lawson trying to resurrect career

Chennai: It was in Chennai in 2002 that Jermaine Lawson began his Test career. He is back here for a stint at the MRF Pace Foundation under the guidance of Australian Dennis Lillee to resurrect his future as an international fast bowler.

Lawson has been twice hauled up by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for illegal action, and has fought back from a stress fracture of the spine.

"It was my first day here. It was great interacting with Dennis. I am looking forward to learning a lot from him. I don't want to go back and wonder `I should have asked him this question'."

Lawson, accompanied by promising fellow Jamaican paceman Andrew Richardson, generated pace from a fluent rhythmic run-up at the nets. "He was bloody quick on occasions. He has an aggressive run-up. To the naked eye, his action appeared clean to me. We just want to make it more efficient," said Lillee.

Optimism

Lawson, who has an impressive 51 wickets in 13 Tests, including a seven-wicket innings haul and a hat-trick against Australia at home in 2002-03, looked at the future with optimism. "They said there was a problem with my flex. It was a hard period. Subsequently, my action has been cleared by the ICC. I am looking forward to getting back into the West Indian team and giving 100 per cent. I have always loved challenges." — Special Correspondent
