MADURAI:
The Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here, which caters to patients of southern districts, has got official clearance for the proposed 300-bed extension project, to be taken up on an outlay of Rs.60 crore.
While the Madurai Corporation has come forward to offer a two-acre land at Anna Bus Stand, the Government recently sanctioned Rs.15 crore under the first phase this fiscal. The special wing will focus on trauma/emergency cases with new features like `pay wards' and option for patients to choose their doctors.
A design of the proposed building has been sent to the Chief Architect of Public Works Department for clearance after which the construction work will be taken up.
S.M. Sivakumar, Dean (in-charge), said on Tuesday that the project was likely to be completed in two years and it would be easy to attend emergency cases at this centre. Speciality doctors would be available round the clock.
According to R. Mathivanan, Resident Medical Officer, though the Corporation was ready to give the land, the hospital would take possession after the design was cleared by the PWD authorities.
