KOCHI: The Admission Supervisory Committee headed by the former judge P.A. Mohammed on Tuesday rejected an adjournment application filed by the Controller of Examinations of a consortium of private medical college managements seeking more time to present his case. The committee took the decision after the Controller of Examinations C. Radhakrishna Pillai failed to appear at its sitting held at the Ernakulam Government guesthouse on Tuesday. Mr. Radhakrishna Pillai was asked to appear before the committee to take his statements regarding an entrance test conducted by the consortium for admitting students to the management seats in the private medical colleges in the State. The committee decided to issue notice to the Controller of Examinations of the consortium to appear before it on August 31. All documents relating to the conduct of the entrance test have to be submitted during the sitting. He had sought time till September 4 to appear before the committee. Member-Secretary of the Admission Supervisory Committee and Higher Education Secretary P. J. Thomas told newspersons that the adjournment application was rejected as the Supreme Court had clearly stated that the committee should take a final decision on the admission process on or before September 8. The apex court had also directed the committee to hold day-to-day sittings to arrive at a final decision. ``If the committee finds any irregularity in the process of admission and/or charging of fee, it shall issue appropriate order/directions," the Supreme Court verdict reads. Mr. Thomas said the committee had asked George Paul, general secretary, Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association, to appear before it during the sitting on August 31. In a letter to the Member-Secretary of the committee on August 25, Mr. Paul had informed the panel that he would like to present more details regarding the admission conducted by the private medical college managements to the management seats. The committee asked students and parents who had submitted complaints regarding the admission process to attend the sitting scheduled on August 31. Notices would be sent to all those who had submitted complaints before the committee. On Tuesday, three students appeared before the committee to submit their complaints regarding the entrance test.
