CULTURAL MEET: Students performing at the Rural Youth Cultural Exchange Programme in Madikeri on Friday
MADIKERI: It was a time for north meeting the south here in Madikeri on Friday. A group of students from Jammu and Kashmir, who are part of the Rural Youth Cultural Exchange Programme, enthralled the audience by performing various events, including song and dance, at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Multipurpose Indoor Auditorium here. Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav inaugurated the event which will be on till August 29, paving the way for a unique exchange of the culture of Kodagu, called the "Kashmir of South". Superintendent of Police Ramachandra Rao presided over the function. A group of 33 boys from Kashmir, led by Gulzar Ahmad, will perform cultural programmes, including songs, dances and the Kashmiri "roufou". Teams from Kodagu will perform Ummathat by women, Bolakkat and Hutri Kolatt by the Cauvery College, Gonicoppa Bharatanatyam by the Sourabha aritstes, Madikeri and Chowriaat by the Kotebetta team. Those present in the function included, Colonel N.K. Appaiah (Retd.), A.M. Khan, president, Jamia Masjid, Madikeri, and Girish Talatmane, president, District Yuva Okkuta. C.J.F. D'Souza, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), welcomed the gathering. The programme is being sponsored by the NYK, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Government of India.
