HYDERABAD: Seventeen Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) legislators were taken into custody for staging a rasta roko at the busy police control room junction near the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

The TRS MLAs, who had earlier stalled proceedings of the Assembly for the second consecutive day, stormed out and marched to the arterial junction holding up traffic.

Slogans raised

The TRS legislators led by party floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao and party workers raised slogans against the Congress party and displayed placards.

Traffic came to a standstill for nearly 30 minutes as the protestors prevented vehicular movement. Raising slogans against Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the Congress high command, the TRS leaders squatted on the road.

A huge posse of police personnel was present to prevent any untoward incident. As the TRS leaders continued their sit-in, Additional Commissioner of Police A.K. Khan arrived at the spot. The protesting MLAs were then bundled into a police van and taken to Nampally police station.

Dr. Vijayarama Rao, T. Harish Rao, N. Narasimha Reddy, E. Ravinder Reddy, Padma Devender Reddy and others courted arrest.
