SPIC TNCA XI to take on Andhra

  • S. Vidyut and C. Hemanth Kumar put on an unbroken 117 for the second wicket for SPIC TNCA

    CHENNAI: SPIC-TNCA XI will play Andhra, while Combined Districts XI will take on Gujarat in the semifinals of the Mindteck-Buchi Babu tournament, to be played here from Saturday.

    The four sides posted wins in their third-round matches; TNCA-President's XI, which defeated Rajasthan by seven wickets to tie Gujarat on points (16), lost out on account of its head-to-head record.

    S. Vidyut (70 n.o., 68b, 9x4, 2x6) and C. Hemanth Kumar (52 n.o., 73b, 7x4) put on an unbroken 117 for the second wicket at SRMC turf to guide SPIC-TNCA to victory against Vidarbha. Chasing 152 in 45 overs, SPIC-TNCA romped home in 26 overs.

    Unbeaten century

    At Pach, Y. Gnaneswara Rao made an unbeaten 101 (132b, 10x4), and V. Sandeep hit four fours on his way to a 76-ball 60, as Andhra set Madhya Pradesh 330. Sunil Dholpure's undefeated 78 off 71 balls (9x4), and his 92-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Murtuza Ali (44) helped Madhya Pradesh to 256 for eight. Mohnesh Mishra (40) and Brijesh Tomar (40 retd. hurt) chipped in, but the target was never under threat.

    Combined Districts successfully chased against Hyderabad at Mayajaal. Earlier, skipper Anirudh Singh scored 60 (89b, 4x4), and shared in a fourth-wicket partnership of 94 with keeper Ibrahim Khaleel (43) to help Hyderabad to 215 in its second innings. A. Avinash, R. Sathish, and S. Suresh split six wickets between them.

    At CPT-IP, Gujarat completed a comprehensive win over Kerala. Hem Joshipura (87, 107b, 4x4) and Parthiv Patel 68 (62b, 8x4) enabled Gujarat total 262 for four in its second stint, setting a target of 327. Akash Christian made 48. Kerala could only manage 147 for five.

    Left-hander R. Prasanna stroked an unbeaten 104 (108b, 8x4, 1x6), and added an unbroken 171 for the fourth wicket with Sunil Viswanathan (84 n.o., 88b, 7x4), as TNCA-President's XI eased to victory. But, the win couldn't seal a semifinal spot. Earlier, Rahul Kanwat (77, 99b, 5x4) and Nikhil Doru (67, 84b, 6x4) put on 139 for Rajasthan. Dishant Yagnik slammed an undefeated, 21-ball 40 (2x4, 2x6).

    The scores: At Pach: Andhra 296 and 219 for five in 45 overs (Y. Gnaneswara Rao 101 n.o., V. Sandeep 60) bt MP 186 and 256 for eight in 45 overs (Mohnesh Mishra 40, Brijesh Tomar 40 retd. hurt, Murtuza Ali 44, Sunil Dholpure 78 n.o.). Points: AP 8, MP 0.

    At ICL-Gurunanak: Rajasthan 316 for eight and 243 for seven in 45 overs (Rahul Kanwat 77, Nikhil Doru 67, Dishant Yagnik 40 n.o.) lost to TNCA President's XI 352 for eight and 211 for three in 41.5 overs (R. Prasanna 104 n.o., Sunil Viswanathan 84 n.o.). Points: President's XI 8, Rajasthan 0.

    At Mayajaal: Hyderabad 225 and 215 in 44.5 overs (Anirudh Singh 60, Ibrahim Khaleel 43) lost to Combined Districts XI 326 for nine and 115 for four in 22.2 overs. Points: Districts 8, Hyderabad 0.

    At CPT-IP: Gujarat 359 and 262 for four in 45 overs (Akash Christian 48, Hem Joshipura 87, Parthiv Patel 68) bt Kerala 295 and 147 for five in 45 overs. Points: Gujarat 8, Kerala 0.

    At SRMC turf: Vidarbha 184 and 221 for nine lost to SPIC-TNCA XI 254 and 152 for one in 26 overs (S. Vidyut 70 n.o., C. Hemanth Kumar 52 n.o.). Points: SPIC-TNCA 8, Vidarbha 0.
