Exclusion of private institutions criticised

Special Correspondent

"Not in keeping with the 93rd Constitutional Amendment"

NEW DELHI: Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav on Thursday said the Bill to provide reservation to Other Backward Classes in Central educational institutions was not in keeping with the 93rd Constitutional Amendment.

Briefing mediapersons here, Mr. Yadav said the 93rd Amendment was applicable to all educational institutions, but the new reservation Bill — slated to be introduced in Parliament on Friday — excluded private institutions.

According to Mr. Yadav, after enacting the 93rd Amendment, the Government should have taken necessary follow-up action to ensure reservation in private educational institutions. "But invisible forces have prevailed upon the Government," he said, accusing the United Progressive Alliance of playing into the hands of private educational institutions.
