Farmers, not BCCI, my priority: Pawar

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Stung by criticism on his holding dual charge as Agriculture Minister and Chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Union Minister Sharad Pawar has clarified in the Rajya Sabha that his priority is agriculture even though he is the chief of the BCCI and associated with several sports organisations in Maharashtra.

Replying to remarks made by Samajwadi Party leader Janeshwar Mishra during a debate on farmers' suicides, Mr. Pawar said he would like to clarify on a `personal note' that that he never compromised on his responsibilities. "I, like some of my colleagues, am in office from 9.30 a.m. till 6 p.m. and clear every file in 24 hours. For other activities I hardly devote two hours a week because I believe in decentralisation and distribution of work."

He said he would never do anything at the cost of Indian farmers and agriculture..."
