: Students from a private law college in Salem staged a flash road roko on Kamarajar Salai in front of the Secretariat on Tuesday. Police said the students had been admitted to the Central Law College, Salem under the Government quota. However, the college authorities allegedly demanded that the students pay a fee equal to that prescribed for management quota students. Protesting against this, the students sent petitions to various Government authorities. But this had evoked no reaction, the students said.
Aggrieved by their situation, over 90 students from the Salem college came to the city and staged the road roko in front of the Secretariat around noon. Police officials said they urged the students to give up the protest and offered to let their representatives meet the Law Minister. However, the students refused to accept it.
Following this the police forcibly took them to a marriage hall in Kondithope. They were later released.
