Training in prevention of food adulteration

CD featuring simple tests released

CHENNAI
: Stella Maris College, along with National Council of Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology, is conducting a three-day State-level training programme for resource persons on detection and prevention of food adulteration from Thursday.
A compact disc featuring simple tests to detect food adulteration developed by the college will be released.
The compact disc is aimed at sensitising the public to food quality control, food laws and relevant Acts as well as simple tests to detect food adulterants.
The compact disc also highlights the usage of the `Home Kit' devised by Geetha Swaminathan, Reader, Department of Chemistry, to detect food adulteration.

The compact disc is menu driven and incorporated with hyperlinks, which will enable the viewer to choose and get more information about a chosen topic of interest.
The programme also highlights the health hazards caused by adulteration.
The workshop is aimed at training volunteers from educational institutions and non-governmental organisations on various aspects of food laws and the role and functions of different regulatory agencies.
