HYDERABAD: A gang of burglars broke into a doctor couple's flat at Banjara Hills and took away Rs.14 lakhs and 10 tolas gold ornaments during daytime on Saturday. Though the flat owner and passers-by chased and caught two of them, they managed to pass on the booty to their other two associates who sped away on their motorcycle. When Rajasekhar Reddy, a Government Hospital doctor, returned to his flat on the sixth floor of Sai Ram Monar complex around 2 p.m., he saw two persons coming down from the penthouse. "I saw them for the first time and their incoherent answers aroused my suspicion," the doctor told the police. When he asked them to stop, they started hurrying down the staircase. The doctor raised an alarm and began to chase them. Alerted by the doctor's cries, the watchmen and some labourers working in the nearby buildings chased the two persons and caught them. Even as the chase was on, two other members of the gang came on a motorcycle, collected the bag from the duo and sped away. "Initially, the two persons who were caught said they didn't know who the motorcycle-borne duo was," West Zone DCP Amit Garg said. Investigation revealed that all the four were members of the same gang, which burgled Rs. 5 lakhs from a private college in S.R. Nagar last year. The gang members entered the flat by removing beading and glass of a window. They had opened the almirah using a screwdriver, police said.
