NEW DELHI: Janmashtami was celebrated with religious fervour across the Capital on Wednesday amid tight security. Special security arrangements had been at the ISKON and Chhattarpur temples in South Delhi, Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place, Birla Mandir on Mandir Marg, the Akshardham and Gufawala temples in East Delhi and the Jhandewalan temple in Central Delhi. The South Delhi police in coordination with the ISKON temple authorities had put in place a contingency plan to counter any eventuality. Apart from the existing entry and exit points, the authorities had got two more emergency exit staircases made to facilitate easy evacuation of visitors. "As many as 2 lakh devotees visited the temple on Wednesday," said a police officer, adding that closed-circuit television cameras had been installed at strategic locations inside the temple premises for constant surveillance. Extra communication gadgets were provided to the police personnel manning the premises and arrangements for proper lighting in the area had also been made.
