Car of Deputy Press Secretary to President stolen

Staff Reporter

It was parked outside the Constitution Club

NEW DELHI: The car of the Deputy Press Secretary to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was stolen from outside the Constitution Club on Rafi Marg here on the eve of Independence Day.

According to the police, Mr. Nitin Wakankar had parked his white Maruti-800 on the pavement just outside the Constitution Club around 11 a.m. on August 14.

After completing his work in the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) building across the road, he returned within 10 minutes to find the vehicle missing. The police were immediately informed and an FIR was lodged at the Parliament Street police station.

Though there were no official parking labels on the vehicle, some important bank documents were kept in it.

What has baffled the police is how the car got stolen when there was a high security alert in the Capital on account of Independence Day celebrations the next day.
