NEW DELHI: Television viewers can now get a peek into the weddings of crème de la crème of society. A series titled "The Great Indian Wedding" that also offers unbridled access into the glamorous lifestyles of celebrities will be premiered on Discovery Travel and Living channel this coming Sunday. Capturing the inimitable celebrations and the high-profile theme parties that herald lifestyle weddings, the new series will bring to viewers an up-close-and-personal account of behind-the-scenes revelry and preparations that precede these extravagant weddings. This one-of-a-kind series will begin with the much-talked-about wedding of hotelier Vikram Chatwal with the gorgeous model Priya Sachdev not long ago. Highlighting the luxury and grandeur that made every part of this wedding a fantasy trip, the programme will capture the glamorous theme parties extending from exotic locations like Jag Mandir at Udaipur to premium hotels in New Delhi. Also on the cards are the striking performances by Indian and international artists and the romantic and religious wedding ceremonies. The wedding was attended by a galaxy of world leaders including the charismatic former American President Bill Clinton, Bollywood stars Jaya Bachchan and Arjun Rampal, global corporate honchos like L.N. Mittal, top-notch models and much-sought-after fashion designers besides politicians and socialites from across the world. The effervescent Natasha Mago will present the inside view of the events at the wedding. Through her conversations and interviews she will give viewers a sense of the excitement in the minds of the bride and groom, the enthusiasm of the guests, the challenges and frustrations of the wedding planners and every exciting moment right down to the actual wedding ceremony. Says Discovery Networks India Executive Vice-President and Managing Director Deepak Shourie: "Discovery Travel and Living has created and established the lifestyle genre in Indian television. To further our growth goals and to satisfy the incessant demand from both Indian and foreign viewers for more India-centric content, we have commissioned programmes that capture contemporary India through a variety of themes including travel, food and weddings. These productions will be up to international standards and will be the next step in successfully establishing our lifestyle expertise." The channel will produce two more India-centric series this year. These are a six-episode travel series, "Indian Rendezvous", and a food series, "A Matter of Taste", that explores the origins, culture and traditions of Indian gastronomy. Encouraged by the fact that emerging aspirations and attitudes in the country, strongly endorsed by the fast-changing travel and consumption habits, reflected a demand for lifestyle-oriented television content, Discovery Networks India launched Discovery Travel and Living in October 2004. Currently available in 22 million homes across the country, the channel is also accessible on the DTH platform.
