Fatal fall from transformer at Purasawalkam

Staff Reporter

Lazar was thrown off the pole and died instantaneously

CHENNAI: A 30-year-old man died when he was thrown off a transformer at Purasawalkam on Monday, and two others were seriously injured.

Power switched off

A few employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board switched off power supply and attended to a problem in the transformer, along with three contract workers, identified as Lazar, Suresh Kumar and Arumugam from Kellys.

Lazar was thrown off the pole and died instantaneously, while Suresh Kumar and Arumugam were admitted to the Kilpauk hospital, the police said.

Even as the police are investigating into the case of death, Lazar's relatives refused to receive the body on Tuesday after post-mortem, arguing that as per the law, only permanent employees should attend to transformer repairs.

After persuasion, they received the body. However, the casual labourers have threatened to stage an agitation.
