CHENNAI: A fine century by Bhavik Thaker helped Gujarat score 336 for eight in 90 overs against TNCA President's XI on the opening day of Mindteck Buchi Babu all-India invitation cricket tournament at the SRMC Turf grounds here on Monday. The match started one hour behind schedule due to overnight showers. Opting to bat first, Gujarat lost early wickets. But a 58-run third wicket partnership between Bhavik and Akash Christian took the score beyond the 100-run mark. The former was also involved in a crucial 117-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Anand Brahambhatt. Left-arm spinner R. Ram Kumar took four for 96 for TNCA.
Century for Bhavin
At the ICL-Gurunanak grounds, Bhavin Thakkar scored an unbeaten century as Mumbai Colts managed 272 for nine against Andhra on day one. Choosing to bat first, Mumbai Colts made a steady start as Sahil Kukreja and Ashok Kandam put on 82 for the first wicket, but lost wickets in quick succession there after. However, the fifth wicket partnership of 80 between Bhavin and Adithya Dare steadied the ship. D. Kalyan Krishna took four for 36 for Andhra. Skipper Ranjith Paradkar made a valuable 90 as Vidharba were all out for 309 in 90 overs against Tripura at the CPT-IP grounds. Ranjith was involved in two useful partnerships 82 runs with Vikranth Deshpande and the other with Sameer Khare that was worth 78 runs. Off-spinner Anupam Dey returned a five-wicket haul. At the Mayajaal grounds, Combined Districts were 96 for four at close in reply to Maharashtra's 118. Maharashtra won the toss and elected to bat. Left-arm spinner S. Senthil Kumar (four for 33) and off-spinner S. Suresh Kumar (three for 17) caused the damage. Only Abhimanyu Shrikande made a solid 45 off 170 balls. At close, R. Srinivasan and S. Senthil Kumar were at the crease. Meanwhile at Viveka, Rajasthan was on 182 for six in 74 overs against Kerala XI as play started only after lunch. Nikhil Doru was unbeaten on 65.
