Ernakulam, Kozhikode triumph

MANANTHAVADY: Ernakulam dethroned holder Kozhikode 2-1 to win the boys' title in the State inter-district junior badminton championship here late on Sunday night. Kozhikode, however, retained the crown in the girls' event, beating Ernakulam 2-1.

Boys (final): Ernakulam bt Kozhikode 2-1 (Shankar P. Gopan bt Neeraj Rahman 12-21, 21-11, 21-16; Shankar & Dileep T. Jacob lost to Ram C. Vijay & Vishnu Prasad 21-23, 24-22, 19-21; Dileep bt Vishnu 17-21, 22-20, 21-16).

Girls (final): Kozhikode bt Ernakulam 2-1 (M. Sruthi bt Megha Merrin Ninan 16-21, 21-9, 21-15; Sruthi & Annie Cherian lost to Megha & Linimol 21-13, 13-21, 17-21; Annie bt Anumol 21-19, 21-9).

Girls' singles (semifinals): P.C. Thulasi (Tsr) bt Annie Cherian (Kzde) 21-14, 21-10; M. Sruthi (Kzde) bt Megha Merin Nina (Ekm) 15-21, 26-24, 21-14.

Quarterfinals: Annie bt Anumol (Ekm) 18-21, 21-15, 21-17; Megha bt Linimol (Ekm) 21-13, 21-11.
