Blood donation camp

KARIMNAGAR: The NCC unit of SRR degree and PG College in association with Satavahana Lions club has organised a mega blood donation camp in the college premises on Saturday. A total of 111 NCC cadets had donated blood on the occasion. Superintendent of Police D. S. Chauhan appreciated the gesture of the NCC cadets . ABVP meet

ADILABAD: The State executive committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) got underway here on Saturday at the BGR gardens. ABVP State secretary K. Raj Reddy told the delegates that the organisation would undertake a survey of the flood affected areas in Adilabad in order to supply text and note books free of cost to student victims. The meeting resolved to display student power with a gathering of over one-lakh students during ABVP's 60th All- India level meeting in Hyderabad. The executive committee meeting was attended by 150 members of the State executive from across the State besides organisation's all India vice president and secretary P. Murali Manohar and Mantri Srinivas and in charge of its affairs in the southern region P. Chandrashekhar. -Staff Reporter

WARANGAL: The Kakatiya Degree College management has invited applications for the posts of contract lecturers in various disciplines. According to KDC principal G. ISO certification Sangareddy: ISO 9001:2000 certificates have reached Medak police headquarters on Saturday from Moody International Certification Limited, certifying that the Quality Management System of the DPO had been compliant with the requirements. The certification would be valid for three years. The certificate would be officially handed over to Superintendent of Police P. V. Sunil Kumar by DGP Swaranjit Sen during his visit to Medak district.-Staff Reporter

Minister visits flood-hit areas

ADILABAD: Union Minister of State for Rural Development A. Narendra on Saturday assured relief to families who suffered losses during the recent flooding of Penganga and Pranahita rivers in Adilabad district.

He was on a visit to flood affected areas of Asifabad Revenue divisions' Sirpur (T) and Koutala mandals. He made inquiries with the flood-affected families at Sirpur (T) town.

He visited agriculture fields where he saw entire fields of soyabean, cotton and pulses that had been ruined by the floods. He later went to Koutala mandal where he addressed a public meeting. — Staff Reporter

Three drowned in floodwater

Kakinada: Three persons including a woman were drowned in flood waters in Konaseema region on Saturday. Vasamsetti Hema Latha, 28, of Pothukurru village was washed away by flood water while she was going to fields. Maruvada Satyanarayana, 40, was drowned in Gouthami River near Sanepalli Lanka. Near Vetlapalem, Appabattula Subrahmanyam (48) was washed away near under Katrenikona police station limits. — Correspondent

Bank's donation towards flood relief

HYDERABAD: Andhra Bank on Saturday donated Rs. 25 lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to meet the immediate requirements of rehabilitation works in the districts devastated due to the recent cyclonic storm. K. Ramakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director, handed over a draft for Rs.25 lakhs to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the Secretariat, a press release said. — Special Correspondent

Police to donate a day's salary

HYDERABAD: The State Police will donate a day's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to help in relief work in flood-hit areas.

The decision was taken after office-bearers of the AP Police Officers' Association led by president V. Anantaramulu met the DGP Swaranjit Sen on Saturday. At the meeting, the police force was commended for its role in rescuing a pregnant woman with the help of a chopper from a marooned village.— Staff Reporter

Journalists injured

VIZIANAGARAM: Nine journalists were injured, one of them seriously, when a staircase of the Press Club here collapsed on Saturday. The journalists were standing on the staircase after the elections to APUWJ, district unit. The seriously injured Sri Ramulu of Salur was rushed to KG Hospital in Visakhapatnam. — Correspondent

Signature campaign against GO 5

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Public Sector Employees' Federation will collect signatures of employees of the State Government and cooperative organisations as part of the demand to scrap GO 5 on PSU reforms. M.Janardhan Reddy, chairman, said in a press release issued here on Saturday that the employees could participate in the signature campaign between 10.30 and 11.30 a.m.

Anganwadi staff's plea

HYDERABAD: The CITU State Committee and Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers' Union opposed the move to retire anganwadi workers aged 58 years without any benefits. Leaders of the committee , led by A. Narasimha, MLA, submitted a memorandum to Chief Ministe Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Saturday demanding withdrawal of the circular on this. As alternative, they suggested payment of Rs. 1 lakh to each worker along with pension. — Special Correspondent
