MADURAI: The district administration plans to achieve 100 per cent coverage of photo rolls for the by-elections to the Madurai (Central) Assembly constituency. The pilot project of introducing photo rolls is likely to be a success with the poll officials claiming 85 per cent coverage of voters in the segment comprising 15 corporation wards. Collector T. Udhayachandran said 1.15 lakh of the total 1.34 lakh voters were covered. "We are undertaking door-to-door verifications to ascertain voters' identity. A database of those who moved in and out of the constituency has been created. The Election Commission is particular that the polls should be held with photo rolls." Talking to newspersons here on Thursday, he said the draft publication of integrated photo roll would take place on August 11 at all the 154 polling stations in the constituency. While the period of claims and objections would be between August 11 and 19, the disposal of such petitions would be completed by August 28. The final photo rolls would be published on August 31. "Steps have been taken to correct wrong images/entries. In case voters find their names missing, they can either quote their Electors Photo Identity Card numbers (from which image would be lifted) or apply afresh for inclusion." By-election to the Madurai (Central) constituency is being held following the demise of former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Minister P.T.R. Palanivelrajan.
