Mullaperiyar: Kerala for arbitration

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Saturday said the State would seek arbitration to resolve the Mullaperiyar issue with Tamil Nadu.

He told presspersons here that the Supreme Court decision allowing Tamil Nadu to raise the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam would not affect the State people.

He was responding to questions on the Supreme Court dismissing the Kerala Government's petition, seeking a review of the February 27 judgment directing the State to permit Tamil Nadu to raise the water level.

The Chief Minister said the United Democratic Front Government did not handle the case properly.
