Bodies of two trekkers found; girl missing

KOLKATA : Mystery shrouds the death of two Jadavpur University students whose bodies were recovered from near a stream in Ayodhya hills in Purulia district even as the police were searching on Saturday for another girl student missing.

The students had gone on trekking on Thursday. One body was identified as that of Subhankar Saha, a student of pharmacology, while the other of a girl was yet to be identified, West Bengal's IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said.

The bodies had been sent for post-mortem.

Reports reaching here said that Saha's body bore injury marks. Police were investigating it. Prima facie, it appeared that they drowned after being swept away by the stream, Mr. Kanojia said.

Two students were rescued by the police team after one of the trekkers climbed down on Friday to inform that the others were missing.

Police were questioning the two rescued students who also had injury marks on their bodies. The police said the families of the students as well as the Jadavpur University authority were being informed.
