Increase in stakes money for Pune season

Pune: The Pune monsoon season which commences here on Aug. 5 will go on till Oct. 29. The 26 meetings will comprise 16 Club race days and ten Special race days.

The Royal Western India Turf Club Ltd has substantially increased the stakesmoney for the season to Rs. 4, 20, 80, 000 as against last year's Rs. 3, 99, 15, 000 according to the Club prospectus. In all 1,072 horses will take part under the guidance of 42 trainers. Bangalore based trainer S. Ganapathy, who is attached to Dr. M. A. M. Ramaswamy's stable, will bring 20 of his wards here.

The RWITC marketing sub-committee led by Mr. Vivek Jain has roped in seven new sponsors — Blue Star Agro & Winery (India) Pvt Ltd, Pegasus Realty LLC, Dubai, Panchshil Realty, Panaromic Universal, M/s. Fun Cream Foods (India) Ltd, Swift Marketing and Oxford Properties.

The stellar attractions of the season are: S. A. Poonawalla Million (Sept. 17) and the Nanoli Stud Pune Derby (Oct. 15). Other attractions will be: Bluefold's August Handicap (Aug. 6), Kumar Builders Turf Club Trophy (Aug. 13), Dubai Pegasus Realty Independence Trophy (Aug. 15), F. D. Wadia Trophy (Aug. 20), General Rajendrasinhji Trophy (Sept. 2), Panchshil Million (Sept. 3), Panaromic Universal Turf Challenge (Sept. 9), Southern Command Gold Trophy (Sept.10), Idar Gold Trophy (Sept. 23), Piaggio ape Colts' and Fillies' Trial Stakes (Sept. 24), Funtacy Ice Creams Trophy (Oct. 1), Bavaria Fillies & Mares Stakes (Oct. 8), N. H. Dhunjibhoy Sprint Championship (Oct. 15), Suresh Mahindra Trophy (Oct. 20) and Oxford Golf Properties RWITC Ltd Invitational Trophy (Oct. 29).
