Water level

MADURAI: Water level in the Periyar dam stood at 122.10 feet with an inflow of 1338 cusecs and a discharge of 1130 cusecs.

The level in the Vaigai dam was 43.14 feet with an inflow of 515 cusecs and a discharge of 900 cusecs.

The combined Periyar credit stood at 3931 mcft.

Rainfall

Periyar dam recorded a rainfall of 21 mm, followed by Tekkadi - 9 mm, Gudalur - 4 mm and Shanmuganadi - 3 mm.

Grievance day meeting

A meeting to hear grievances from electricity consumers of Madurai East Division will be held at the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer, Melur, by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board at 11 a.m. on July 13.

According to a TNEB press release, residents served by theEast/Madurai Division can air their grievances, if any, at the meeting.

PG courses

Classes for all first year under-graduate and post-graduate courses of Madurai Kamaraj University College will commence from July 17, according to R. Madhanagopal, Principal.

Association formed

Madurai District All Newspaper Agents' Welfare Association was formed at a meeting held on Sunday with the objective of seeking inclusion of newspaper agents and hawkers in the welfare board for unorganised workers.

The following were elected office-bearers of the association at the meeting : P. Arulkumaran (president), M. Marudupandian (vice-president), R. Deenadayalan (secretary), L. Antonyraj (deputy secretary) and M. Selvakumar (treasurer).

Installed

V. Suryamurthy and P. Muthu Kumar were installed president and secretary respectively of the Rotary Club of Madurai Metro at a function held on Saturday.

A wheel chair, for use by handicapped persons, was donated to the Madurai railway junction on the occasion

JD (S) condemns Mumbai blasts

The Tamil Nadu Janata Dal (Secular) has condemned the bomb blasts in Mumbai in which several people were killed on Tuesday.

In a press release, its State general secretary, K. John Moses, said the "cowardly" act was yet another incident that pointed to the increasing bomb culture in the country. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government should take steps to curb activities of terrorist organisations with an iron fist, he said. — Staff Reporter
