MADURAI: An alert has been sounded in the Temple City following the series of bomb blasts in Mumbai. Under instructions from Commissioner of Police, M. Chidambarasamy, several police teams conducted checks at vital installations, including railway bridges, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board establishments and places of worship. Check-posts were strengthened with armed personnel. Sleuths of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted anti-sabotage checks at Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. Vehicle checks and night patrolling were also intensified. Top police officials, including Mr. Chidambarasamy, were involved in night rounds.Surprise checks were being carried out at hotels and guesthouses. Plainclothesmen were posted at areas of public gathering, including bus stands, railway station, cinemas and commercial streets, police sources said.
