Bangalore: PES Institute of Technology (PESIT) has crossed two significant milestones. The Data Quest-IDC survey of 100 technology education institutions has rated it 23rd. The earlier rating was 43. "We are the only private college from this region to reach that rank. Those ranked above us are IITs, regional engineering colleges and State Government-run technology universities,'' PES Group Chairman M.R. Doreswamy said. Another achievement was that the engineering class of 2006 with 570 students, managed to find placements for 485 final year students; 155 of them received offers from more than one employer. The average compensation offered was Rs. 3 lakh per year and the highest, Rs. 7.2 lakh. Fifty companies came for campus interviews, PES Director D. Jawahar said. "Responding to a suggestion from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister who visited our campus, PESIT has decided to offer five free seats each in our two engineering colleges to students with merit, coming from rural areas and with a family income below Rs. 30,000 per year. They have to pay no fees. If all the 150 engineering colleges follow this example many families can come out of their cycle of poverty,'' Prof. Doreswamy said. Explaining the background for the high placements record, Mr. Jawahar said the college placement cell guided BE and MCA students, and the industry interaction during their courses through arrangements with major companies.
