London: Maharashtra Governor S.M. Krishna has lauded the achievements of Infosys chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy and Wipro chief Azim Premji, noting that the IT wizards brought India to the fore in the knowledge sector. "Institutions they built are the pride of our nation," Mr. Krishna, former Karnataka Chief Minister, said on Thursday night at a reception hosted in his honour by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here. Mr. Krishna said he had "great admiration" for people like Mr. Murthy and Mr. Premji even before he assumed office as Chief Minister. The Governor said that during his tenure as Chief Minister, he sought the cooperation of the IT chieftains, among others, for the creation of the Bangalore Agenda Task Force. "We had a group headed by Infosys Technologies CEO Nandan Nilekani, and they spent hours together with us. If today I have become the beneficiary of that movement, perhaps it is because of those people who made Bangalore happen," he said. Pointing out that India had made great strides in the IT and knowledge industry, Mr. Krishna said that the Bangalore model was being replicated elsewhere. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (UK) chairman Manick Dalal and Rajat Bagchi, Minister (Coordination), in the Indian High Commission, also spoke. PTI
