London: Jelena Jankovic, a 21-year old Serbian, outlasted the defending champion and sixth seed, Venus Williams, 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-4 in a women's singles third round match in the 120th Wimbledon championships on Saturday evening. On the No.2 court, known as the graveyard of the seeds, Jankovic let go of a chance to serve out the match in the ninth game of the decider and then lost three matchpoints on Venus's serve in the next game. But, Venus, who failed to find a consistent rhythm both in her groundstrokes and on her serve, sent down a double fault to offer the Serbian another chance and then netted a forehand to bring up the end. Venus won the title here in 2000, 2001 and last year.
