Commodity prices

The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Saturday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce & Industry: Groundnut oil-53.50, Palmolein oil-42, Sunflower oil-48.50, Tamarind (flower variety)-30 to 39, Tamarind (karipuli variety)-44 to 52, Chillies (new)-35 to 45, Rice 2716-14, Rice super fine-15, Rice Sona Masuri-18 to 19, Samba-16, Black gram (Pottu Minappappu)-42 and Red gram 25.50 to 30.50.

Green drive by VMC

Keen on spreading the culture of nurturing the greenery in city, VMC would hold a rally in July 29 from Thummallapalli Kala Kshetram and Benz Circe, which will culminate at IGMC stadium. Students from all private and public schools, colleges would take part in the rally. Later at IGMC stadium, city Mayor Tadi Sakuntala and District Collector Navin Mittal would distribute a plant to each student, said VMC commissioner Natarajan Gulzar.
