VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has introduced a multi-purpose iris registration centre with the support of Hyderabad-based Labcall Biometric Technologies Pvt Ltd on Monday. VMC Commissioner N. Gulzar, who inaugurated the centre, said that thenew software would be used to verify beneficiaries of different welfare schemes. Mr. Gulzar said that new iris cards would be given to the beneficiaries of house sites, old age pensions, widow pensions, PHC pensions, CMEY loans, DWCRA groups and other schemes. The full details of these beneficiaries would be entered on the cards. "With the help of this, there will be smoothness in distribution of benefits of various schemes," he added. Labcall Director G. Srinivas said that it was for the first time in the country that the VMC was using a special software to keep track of hundreds and thousands of names of beneficiaries.
