STUTTGART: Australia's Lucas Neill is making the most of the World Cup stage. Normally the starting right back for Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier League, Neill has effortlessly moved into the centre of the Socceroos' defence in Germany. He has attracted attention with his performances, marshalling the backline and elegantly moving forward with the ball to start an attack. Neill is as smooth off the pitch as he is on it. Comfortable in the spotlight, the eloquent defender is never short of a quote or quip. He was captain for Blackburn's last two games of the 2005-06 season and is seen as a future skipper of Australia. Reports from Australia say that the 28-year-old from Sydney has drawn interest from Tottenham, West Ham and Newcastle in England as well as Spanish powerhouse Barcelona. But Neill isn't interested in talking about his future. AP
